Here is the BLUF:

  • Federalisms is a small, independent, woman-owned greeting card and gift business located in Washington, D.C., created to support the federal and federal-adjacent workforce. Federalisms is also non-partisan.

  • Becky Brown, Founder of Federalisms, has been a federal government employee for more than 20 years. As “the one in charge of getting the cards” for team occasions, including a rotation on an office’s “Sunshine Committee,” she knew we could do better than the selection at the closest drug store. During a particularly pointed meeting at work, Becky realized exactly what needed to happen, and reserved the Federalisms.com domain name and @cardsforfeds on Instagram that night (not during duty hours, promise) and seeing as you found this page, the rest is history.

  • Federalisms can be purchased on Federalisms.com and at select retailers. Online, everything available for purchase can be found on the Procure page. From there, if you have a specific occasion or need, click on the categories at the top of that page to sort the offerings. Or just scroll through and check out what is new. A little imperfect? Yes. Good enough for government work? Absolutely.

  • Federalisms are intentionally created and priced for the federal workplace and with Ethics rules in mind, so whether you can support a colleague or supervisor is never in question.

    • Federalisms is trying hard to keep all products under the “de minimis gift exception” federal government gift regulation limit of $20. (“Gifts of $20 or less. An employee may accept unsolicited gifts having an aggregate market value of $20 or less per source per occasion, provided that the aggregate market value of individual gifts received from any one person under the authority of this paragraph . . . does not exceed $50 in a calendar year.” 5 C.F.R. § 2635.204(a)) This is not legal or ethics advice, just a plain reading of the regulation.

    • And good news: the federal government gift regulations specifically exclude greeting cards from the definition of “gift” (“The term excludes the following: . . . Greeting cards . . . .” 5 C.F.R. § 2635.203(b)(2)) This is not legal or ethics advice, just a plain reading of the regulation.
